An owner who cannot practically meet a specific NEC or NESC requirement may apply in writing to the appropriate AHJ under section 10-2-3(A), stating the reason, the requested modification, and why it preserves the code's safety intent; the AHJ must decide within thirty days. Because Title 10, Chapter 2 has no penalty section of its own, an electrical-code violation is punished under the citywide general penalty at section 1-4-1, up to the maximum class B misdemeanor fine under Utah Code section 76-3-301, up to six months imprisonment, or both.
