Noblesville, IN Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Noblesville Code of Ordinances § 154.04, ADOPTION OF RULES BY REFERENCE, incorporates the building rules of the Indiana Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission set out in specified Articles of Title 675 of the Indiana Administrative Code, including later amendments as published in the Indiana Register with their fixed effective dates. Subsection (A)(4) lists Article 17, Electrical Codes, covering the Indiana Electrical Code and the Safety Code for Health Care Facilities, as incorporated articles. Copies of the adopted rules, codes, and standards are kept on file with the Clerk-Treasurer under § 154.04(B).

Electrical work is construction or alteration of a building system, so it falls under the general permit rule of § 154.15: a permit must be obtained before beginning construction, alteration, repair, or demolition of any building or structure, on forms furnished by the Director of Planning, with fees paid to the Clerk-Treasurer per Ordinances 1513 and 1522, as amended. The application must include a plat or sketch of the location and plans and specifications for the work under § 154.16, and any variance from the adopted building rules is subject to review by the Indiana Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission under § 154.30, not effective until the Commission approves it.
