Noblesville, IN Building Safety: Fire Sprinkler Requirements (2026)

Section 92.094 of Noblesville's Fire Prevention Code, adopted with the rest of Chapter 92 by Ord. 50-10-09 on October 27, 2009, sets three ongoing duties for any building with an installed sprinkler system, most commonly Class 1 structures open to the public, three or more tenants, or employees, and Group R-2 apartment buildings covered elsewhere in the same subchapter. Where a system has multiple zones, an approved zone diagram or map must be mounted next to the sprinkler riser so responders can identify which area a zone valve or alarm covers.

A copy of the as-built sprinkler plans and hydraulic calculations for every sprinkler system must be kept permanently on-site in an approved location, giving the Fire Department and building staff a working reference during inspections or emergencies. Where the Indiana Fire Code requires an impairment coordinator, instructions for that assignment must be posted adjacent to the riser. These duties sit alongside § 92.092's submittal requirements (full sprinkler and standpipe plans, calculations, and manufacturer cut-sheets before a rough-in inspection) and § 92.120's acceptance test before a certificate of occupancy issues, so a sprinkler system is documented from installation through ongoing operation, not just approved once and forgotten.
