Old Bridge, NJ Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

The Old Bridge Township Code creates an Electrical Subcode Official position within the Division of Code Enforcement under § 108-1A, one of five subcode officials, alongside Building, Plumbing, Fire Protection and the Construction Official, that make up the Township's State Uniform Construction Code enforcing agency. That official reviews and inspects electrical work under separate fees set out in § 108-4D, last revised by Ordinance No. 2026-10 on April 28, 2026. Electrical subcode fees are itemized by the type and quantity of equipment rather than charged as a flat percentage: receptacles and fixtures cost $75 for the first 25, $40 for each additional 25 up to 150, and $75 for each additional 25 beyond that.

Motors and electrical devices are billed on a horsepower scale, from $75 for units over 1 HP up to 10 HP, rising to $450 for anything larger than 100 HP, and transformers and generators are billed on a similar kilowatt scale starting at $60. As with the other subcodes, every electrical application is subject to the Township's 20% plan review fee under § 108-4A(5), which is not refundable once paid, and permit-update reviews of an already-approved plan cost $100 per hour per subcode under § 108-4A(6).

The fee must be paid, along with the building and any other applicable subcode fees, before the Division of Code Enforcement will issue the combined construction permit, since § 108-4 treats the overall permit fee as the sum of the subcode fees below.
