Perth Amboy, NJ Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Chapter 184 of the Perth Amboy City Code is the city's Uniform Construction Code chapter. Section 184-1 says the City of Perth Amboy accepted responsibility for administering and enforcing the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code Regulations and set up a local enforcing agency called the Office of Construction and Fire Prevention. That office consists of the Construction Official, who is the chief administrator, a Building Subcode Official, a Plumbing Subcode Official, an Electrical Subcode Official, an Elevator Subcode Official and a Fire Protection Subcode Official. Section 184-1 B lets the city retain an on-site third-party inspection agency by contract in place of a particular subcode official, and § 184-1 C gives the public the right to do business with the enforcing agency at one office location.

The electrical fee schedule in § 184-2 is headed UCC Electrical, In-House Inspection Services. Device outlets, fixtures and switches, including burglar alarms, intercom panels, smoke detectors, thermostats, motors, photocells, level probes and temperature sensors, cost $75 for the first 75 devices and $25 for each additional 25 devices or fraction thereof. Services, service panels, sub-panels, feeders, switchboards, motor control centers and similar equipment are priced by amperage: $18 up to 100 amps, $150 from 101 amps up to 200 amps, $250 from 201 amps up to 1,000 amps and $650 at 1000 amps and above. A pool, fountain or similar installation, which includes bonding, motor, 2 outlets and a switch, costs $126 above ground and $189 in ground. Each standard light is $15 and trailers are $75. The minimum fee is $75, and all other work requiring review and inspection is billed at $75 per hour with a one hour minimum.

If the city contracts with a private on-site inspection agency, § 184-2 B sets the charge at the uniform percentage bid of the state fee plus a forty percent (40%) administrative fee. Section 184-2 D adds a state training surcharge based on the volume of new construction.
