Perth Amboy, NJ Building Safety: Plumbing Permits (2026)

Section 184-1 of the Perth Amboy City Code creates the Office of Construction and Fire Prevention to enforce the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code in the City of Perth Amboy, with the Construction Official as chief administrator and a Plumbing Subcode Official among its members. The plumbing fee schedule in § 184-2 is headed UCC Plumbing, In-House Inspection Services, and it defines its terms. Plumbing appliances include hot water heaters, tank-less heater units, water conditioners and similar equipment. Plumbing appurtenances include pressure-reducing valves, backflow prevention, back water valves, vacuum breakers, grease traps, interceptors and similar devices. Plumbing fixtures include stacks, lavatories, kitchen sinks, urinals, water closets, toilets, bathtubs, shower stalls, laundry tubs, floor drains, washing machine connections and hose bibs.

The printed fees start with a mechanical inspection fee for R3 or R5 of $75 per unit and $50 for each additional unit. Each plumbing fixture or non-testable backflow preventer is $16, a water heater appliance $35, fuel oil piping $60 and gas piping $100. Steam boilers, hot water boilers and sewer pumps are $100 each, as are interceptor or separator and appurtenance work and grease or oil traps. A condenser-only A/C or refrigeration unit is $75 and an HVAC or combination A/C unit is $100. Sewer connections are $100 up to 6 inches, $150 for 7 to 11 inches, $250 for 12 to 23 inches and $300 for 24 inches and up. A water service connection is $100, lawn sprinklers are $45, and each roof drain or floor drain is $35. Testable backflow devices that need annual re-inspection are $75 for each device when tested. Work priced by estimated cost is $40 per thousand, with cost data from the architect or engineer of record, a recognized estimating firm or the contractor. The minimum fee is $75.

Plan review fees are a non-refundable fee of 20% of the total fees for plan review and prototype plans.
