Bartow County, GA Building Safety: Building Inspections (2026)

Bartow County Code § 18-283(a) directs the building official, upon notice from the permit holder, to make the inspections required for a project and either release that portion of the work or notify the holder of violations that must be corrected before the technical code is satisfied. Section 18-283(b) sets out the typical order of inspections by trade. For building work, the sequence runs foundation inspection after trenches are excavated and forms erected, rough-in/frame inspection once the roof, framing, fireblocking, bracing, and concealed wiring, pipes, chimneys, ducts, and vents are in place, insulation inspection after the rough-in approvals but before interior wall covering goes up, and a final inspection once the building is complete and ready for occupancy.

Parallel sequences apply to electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and gas systems, each ending in its own final inspection. Under § 18-284, work may not proceed past the point checked at each inspection without a written release from the building official, and under § 18-285 reinforcing steel, framing, and plumbing may not be covered or concealed until the building official issues a release. A licensed architect or engineer's affidavit can substitute for some inspections under § 18-286, and a certificate of occupancy under § 18-321 is not issued until every required system has been inspected, corrected as needed, and released.
