Hamden, CT Building Safety: Building Inspections (2026)

Section 150.12 governs what happens once a Hamden building permit is issued and work stalls or needs a second look. If a permit is revoked or a project is abandoned or discontinued, the Building Official computes the volume of work actually completed and refunds any excess fee for the portion never built. Any penalty already imposed on the permit holder under the state basic building code must be collected first, and if the Building Official decides the scope of work has changed enough to need a revised cost declaration, the contractor or owner must pay an additional charge applied to the original permit.

Every time a trade inspector is called back for a re-inspection, for any reason, the fee is $25, and the request must be submitted in writing with the fine attached within ten days of receiving written notice of the problem; when the enforcing officer asks, the contractor must arrange to be on site at the specified time. Separately, § 150.12(D) penalizes work that started without the proper permit in the first place: the Building Department doubles the permit fee or imposes a flat $100 fine, whichever is larger.
