Yonkers, NY Building Safety: Plumbing Permits (2026)

Article III of the Plumbing and Drainage Code requires Bureau approval before any construction, reconstruction, extension, alteration or repair of plumbing, drainage or gas equipment begins (§ 57-10A). The owner, or an authorized signer for a business, files the Bureau's "Application for Proposed Plumbing, Drainage or Gas Work" with supporting plans and pays a $30 fee to the City Comptroller before review (§ 57-11). Once the Director confirms the plans meet the New York Uniform Code and Bureau rules, the plans are stamped "APPROVED FOR GENERAL ARRANGEMENT PER YONKERS PLUMBING AND DRAINAGE CODE," and that stamped set is the permit (§ 57-10D).

Only "jobbing," meaning minor repairs to an existing system, is exempt from the permit step (§ 57-12); an as-built plan tying the house sewer and water main to two reference points is due once work is finished (§ 57-15). Inspection and certificate fees run from $100 plus $25 per fixture, up to 200 fixtures then $20 each, for a work permit, to $150 for a gas pressure test and $100 for a certificate-of-occupancy inspection (§ 57-17). Reinspection because work wasn't ready costs $300 the first time, $600 the second and $900 for each one after that (§ 57-17C). No system may be used until the Plumbing Supervisor issues a certificate of approval after a final test (§ 57-19).
