No one may hold a parade on a county road in unincorporated Butte County without a permit from the Sheriff under Code Chapter 14, Article X. Applications are due thirty to sixty days ahead, cost fifty-eight dollars, and the Sheriff can rewrite the route, timing or size of the parade if public safety departments raise concerns.

Any outdoor gathering of 100 or more people lasting three hours or longer for a musical, theatrical or similar event in unincorporated Butte County needs an Outdoor Festival Administrative Permit from Development Services. The permit is ministerial, but the applicant must document security, sanitation, medical coverage, traffic control and amplified-sound hours before the county issues it.
