Flood Elevation
In unincorporated Carteret County, every new building and substantial improvement in a special flood hazard area must be anchored against flotation, built with flood-resistant materials, and use construction methods that minimize flood damage under Sec. 7-86 of the Flood Damage Prevention chapter. The floodplain administrator, housed in Planning and Development, issues the required permit before any work begins.
