In unincorporated Wicomico County, selling or planting invasive running bamboo from the genus Phyllostachys is illegal under Chapter 163, adopted November 5, 2024 by Bill No. 2024-08. The County Council paired the outright ban with an education campaign run by the County Executive to steer residents toward native or non-invasive landscaping alternatives instead.
