Kenner, LA Curfew Laws: Juvenile Curfew (2026)

Kenner's curfew ordinance, § 7-169, sets two separate windows. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, curfew runs from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the following day; on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, it runs from 11:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. 'Minor' is defined by cross-reference to the Louisiana Children's Code, Article 804. Three separate offenses can arise from one curfew violation: the minor who remains in any public place or on the premises of any establishment within the city during curfew hours commits an offense; a parent, guardian or tutor/tutrix who knowingly permits, or by insufficient control allows, the minor to remain also commits an offense; and the owner, operator or employee of an establishment who knowingly lets a minor stay commits a third.

The ordinance lists specific defenses in subsection (c), including a minor accompanied by a parent or guardian, running an errand at a parent's direction, traveling in interstate commerce, coming from work, responding to an emergency, standing on the sidewalk in front of the minor's own or a neighbor's home, attending a supervised school, religious or recreational activity, exercising First Amendment rights, or being a married minor or a seventeen-year-old lawfully driving under La. Rev. Stat. 32:416.1. Before enforcing, § 7-169(d) requires a Kenner police officer to ask the minor's age and reason for being out and to confirm no defense applies before issuing a citation or making an arrest.

Under subsection (e), each violation is a separate offense, and each day or part of a day it continues is charged separately, with a fine of up to $500 and up to sixty days in jail for each offense. The current version reflects Ord. No. 12,190 (2023).
