Lynwood, CA Curfew Laws: Juvenile Curfew (2026)

Lynwood Municipal Code § 3-11.1 bars any minor under the age of eighteen from remaining in a public place or establishment within the City of Lynwood between ten o'clock P.M. and six o'clock A.M. A companion daytime curfew at § 3-11.2 separately bars school-age minors from public places between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on school days. Section 3-11.1b lists seven exceptions to the nighttime curfew: the minor is with a parent, legal guardian or spouse eighteen or older; involved in an emergency; going to or from a supervised school, civic, religious or recreational activity without a detour; going to or from lawful employment without a detour; in a vehicle on interstate travel; exercising First Amendment rights such as speech, assembly or religion; or an emancipated minor under Family Code § 7002.

Violations are handled under § 3-11.3: a minor cited is treated as an infraction unless the minor demands a Welfare and Institutions Code § 601 or § 602 petition, and any person who wilfully violates either curfew is guilty of an infraction punishable under the general penalty scheme at Lynwood Municipal Code § 1-5. A parent, guardian or other adult who knowingly permits a minor to violate the curfew commits a misdemeanor under § 3-11.3c and § 3-11.4, which also makes the conduct a violation of Penal Code § 272, prosecutable under state law.

The city council may separately recoup, by resolution under § 3-11.5, the Sheriff's costs of identifying, detaining and transporting curfew violators back to their residence from the minor or the minor's parents or guardians.
