Montebello, CA Curfew Laws: Park Curfew (2026)

Section 12.24.160 of the Montebello Municipal Code bars any person from entering, loitering or remaining in a public park or its parking lot between ten p.m. and six a.m. the following day. 'Public park' is defined broadly in Section 12.24.020 to include parks, athletic fields, tennis and pickleball courts, splash pads, exercise stations, skate parks, dog parks, the golf course, swimming pools, recreation centers, playgrounds, pavilions, medians, park parking lots and recreational trails, so the curfew reaches nearly every recreation and community services facility in the city.

The rule carries one exception: it does not apply when park facilities have been rented out to the public and the rental is approved by the director of parks and recreation, covering evening events at reservable spaces. City employees performing their duties are exempt from the park conduct chapter generally under Section 12.24.010. Enforcement runs through Section 12.24.290, which authorizes Montebello police officers, the code enforcement division, the parks and recreation manager and the director, along with other parks and recreation department employees, to enforce any posted rule or chapter violation and to issue citations.

Curfew violations can bring a verbal warning, immediate eviction for the remainder of the day's operating hours, or a multi-day suspension of park privileges set by the director based on severity, on top of any criminal citation. A person suspended for a day or more can appeal in writing to the director before the suspension starts, with a decision due within thirty business days and the suspension paused while the appeal is pending; the director's ruling is final.
