Weston, FL Environmental Rules: Erosion Control (2026)

Chapter 127's waterway design standards, § 127.42(B)(1), govern any lot or parcel cleared adjacent to a lake, canal or other water body in Weston. Subsection (d) requires that after construction, natural vegetation be retained or replaced on the site to minimize and stabilize erosion and decrease pollution of the water body. Subsection (e) requires silt screens between the construction site and the water body itself to prevent erosion and siltation while the ground is exposed. These sit alongside related design controls in the same section: proposed lakes or canals need written conceptual approval from the South Florida Water Management District (and FDEP, DNR or the Army Corps where applicable) before construction, fill slopes created by deposition cannot exceed four horizontal feet to one vertical foot above a point three feet below the design water elevation, and no waterway may be created without a permit first approved in writing by the City Engineer, who then inspects the waterway and its structures during construction.

Separately, § 127.41(F) sets the city's general Best Management Practice standard for stormwater and wetland pollution control, adopting by reference the latest edition of the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System requirements and the latest edition of the FDEP Erosion and Sediment Control Criteria. Chapter 127 does not carry its own dedicated fine for these provisions, so enforcement falls to the citywide general penalty at § 2.99.
