Flagstaff, AZ Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Flagstaff Zoning Code § 10-50.50.030, Siting and Building Standards, ties every fence and wall to Table 10-50.50.030.A, Maximum Height of Fences or Walls, and measures that height as the vertical distance from finished grade at the base of the fence to the top edge of the fence material. In a residential zone, a solid fence or wall inside the front setback tops out at 3 feet, a vinyl-coated chain link fence at 4 feet, and a decorative wrought-iron horse corral fence at 5 feet; along a side or rear setback the limit jumps to 6 feet. Commercial zones allow parking-area screening walls up to 3.5 feet in the front setback, bar fencing altogether in the rest of the front setback, and permit 6 feet along side, rear and street-buffer lines. Industrial and Public Facility zones get the most room: 6 feet in the front setback and 8 feet on side or rear property lines.

Nonresidential uses that display merchandise or equipment get a narrow exception under subsection B: a wrought-iron fence, or a 3-foot masonry wall topped with wrought iron, up to 6 feet total, can sit along the street property line or in the front yard setback for security, though chain-link is barred for that purpose. Every height limit in the table is also subordinate to the Engineering Standards' Intersection Sight Triangle rule, so a fence that meets the table's height column can still be cited if it blocks the sight line at a street corner.
