Full Breakdown
The City of Humble establishes general fence requirements through its zoning ordinance and property maintenance standards. Fences must be set inside the property line and may not encroach on public rights-of-way, utility easements, or drainage easements. Property owners should verify easement locations on their property plat before installing any fence, as the city or utility providers may remove fences within easements without compensation. Fences must be structurally sound, maintained in good repair, and not present a hazard. Leaning, damaged, or deteriorated fences visible from public areas may receive maintenance violation notices.
The finished or decorative side of fences must face outward toward neighboring properties and public streets. Fences may not obstruct sight visibility at intersections or driveway approaches. Barbed wire and electric fences are generally prohibited in residential districts. Fences along drainage channels or in floodplain areas may require open-style construction to allow water passage during flood events. All fences must comply with the height limits for their respective yard location (front, side, or rear). Contact Community Development at (281) 446-4331.
Violations & Fines
Deteriorated or hazardous fences may receive maintenance violation notices. Fences in easements may be removed by the city or utility providers. Fences obstructing visibility or violating setbacks require correction.
