Sec. 9-3 of the Pasadena Code establishes fence height limits. Residential maximum is 7 feet unless deed restrictions are more restrictive. Any fence forward of the front building setback line must be chain link, wrought iron, or white picket only and cannot exceed 4 feet in height. Commercial maximum is 9 feet excluding razor wire on security fences. Fences or walls exceeding 7 feet require an original drawing sealed by a professional engineer designed for 90 MPH wind loads. Multifamily dwellings must be enclosed with fences at least 7 feet high (8 feet if abutting a residential subdivision, and must be opaque). Electric fences are prohibited citywide under Sec. 9-5. Fences cannot be built on or in drainage easements per Sec. 9-6.
