La Habra, CA Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Municipal Code § 18.12.070 governs fence, wall and hedge height in every residential zone in La Habra. Subsection A sets the baseline at six feet for a fence, wall or hedge in the rear or side yard, with one exception: where that yard directly abuts at least a four-lane highway, the owner may build an eight-foot-high block wall along or within ten feet of the rear or side property line, unless a driveway approach exits through that setback area. The code measures wall height from the highest grade at the wall's location, requires graffiti removal within seventy-two hours of discovery, and requires damaged walls or fences to be repaired within seven days or on a schedule the chief planner approves.

Subsection B lowers the limit to three feet for a fence, wall or hedge in the required front yard. Subsection C extends that three-foot cap to the street side of a reversed corner lot, between the street and the established setback line on the key lot to the rear. Where the key lot behind a reversed corner lot sits at a higher elevation, the fence on the lower lot may rise in proportion to that elevation difference, but never above six feet overall, and never above three feet within the required front yard of the reversed corner lot itself.
