Lake Elsinore regulates fence and wall heights under LEMC 17.44.080. Side and rear property-line fences must be at least six feet, while front-yard fences are capped at 36 inches, except wrought-iron fences may reach five feet. Height is measured from the highest grade on either side of the fence.
Section 17.44.080 of the Lake Elsinore Municipal Code (Title 17 Zoning) sets the core fence and wall heights citywide. The required height of all side and rear property-line fences or walls is a minimum of six feet. Along a major arterial, the Planning Commission may, through design review approval, require a minimum height of eight feet. In required front yards, the maximum height is 36 inches, except that wrought-iron fences may be five feet tall. Height is measured from the highest grade elevation on either side of the structure, which matters on sloped lots. Any wall exceeding eight feet in total height requires specific Planning Commission approval.
A fence built outside the allowed heights is a zoning violation enforced by Code Enforcement. Remedies include a correction notice and an order to lower or rebuild it. Walls over eight feet built without Planning Commission approval may be removed.
