Under Sec. 6-201, a fence permit is required for any fence over 2.5 feet in height. Plans and specifications must accompany the application. The permit must be approved before construction begins.
Section 6-201 of the Richardson Code makes it unlawful to construct a fence over 2.5 feet in height without first obtaining a fence permit from the Building Inspection Department. Adequate plans and specifications must accompany each application. Section 6-202 requires inspection upon completion. The chief building official issues a card of acceptance if the fence complies. All fences must be maintained with no more than 20% out of vertical alignment, with all damaged portions repaired with comparable materials. Exterior supports may not be used to maintain alignment. Fence sections must be securely attached to support posts. Contact Building Inspection at 972-744-4174 or 972-744-4180.
Building a fence without a permit or failing to pass inspection may result in citations, required removal, and fines up to $2,000.
