Under Sec. 6-209, residential fences may be up to 8 feet along rear and side property lines. Front yard fences are limited to 3 feet and must be decorative. Corner lots have special visibility triangle requirements of 15 ft by 25 ft.
Richardson Code Section 6-209 establishes fence height limits for single-family, duplex, and apartment zones. Rear yard fences may not exceed 8 feet along the rear property line. Side yard fences may not exceed 8 feet from the rear property line up to the front wall of the building or building line, whichever is greater. Front yard fences (between front property line and front building wall) may not exceed 3 feet and must be part of landscaping or a decorative screen, subject to approval by the chief building official. Corner lots require a visibility triangle: no fence exceeding 4 feet (with 50% through vision) within an area measured 15 feet along the rear property line and 25 feet along the side property line adjacent to the street. Heights are measured from inside natural or mean grade elevation. A 5-foot by 20-foot clear triangle is required at alley-street intersections.
Fence violations are enforced by Building Inspection. Non-compliant fences must be modified or removed. Fines up to $2,000 per day.
