Consumer fireworks are prohibited within Cedar Hill city limits year-round. State law (TX Occupations Code Ch. 2154) bans retail sale inside the city, and discharge anywhere in town can result in a fine up to $2,000 under the fire code.
Cedar Hill, like nearly every incorporated North Texas city, prohibits the sale, possession with intent to discharge, and discharge of consumer fireworks (firecrackers, bottle rockets, Roman candles, mortars, sparklers larger than 10 inches, etc.) anywhere within city limits. Texas Occupations Code Ch. 2154 reserves fireworks regulation to the state but allows municipalities to ban sale and discharge inside their limits, and the state fire marshal does not license retail fireworks stands within the Cedar Hill ETJ. The prohibition is in effect 365 days a year β including July 4, New Year's Eve, Diwali, and Lunar New Year. Permitted public displays (Cedar Hill's own July 4 celebration, Cedar Hill ISD events, Northwood University events) are conducted by licensed pyrotechnicians under a city fire-marshal permit and are exempt. The Cedar Hill Fire Department and PD aggressively enforce the ban during the wildfire risk season because of the heavy cedar/juniper brush at Cedar Hill State Park and the surrounding escarpment.
Class C misdemeanor under the fire code with fines up to $2,000 per violation. Confiscation of fireworks. Civil liability for any fire damage caused. Repeat offenders may face state-level reckless endangerment charges if a wildfire results.
