Kenner, LA Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Kenner Code of Ordinances Sec. 7-163 states it is unlawful for any person to have, keep, store, use, manufacture, offer to sell, handle, or transport any pyrotechnics within the corporate limits, and the section spells out that its intent is to prohibit the sale, distribution, or discharge of pyrotechnics of any kind whatsoever. Pyrotechnics is defined broadly to include any sparkler, squib, rocket, firecracker, Roman candle, signal light, firework, or other device or composition used to obtain a visible or audible pyrotechnic display, meaning even consumer-grade sparklers fall under the ban.

The section carves out three narrow exceptions: signaling devices used for current daily consumption by railroads, trucks, or vessels; a permitted public pyrotechnic display in a park or other open place; and normal photographic flashlight compositions used by photographers or dealers in photo supplies. The public-display exception requires a permit issued by the city with the approval of both the chief of police and the chief of the Kenner Fire Department, who must determine that provisions have been made for the proper safeguarding of life and property and that adequate police and fire protection will be provided at the event.

There is no residential fireworks permit in Kenner; the only lawful path to a legal fireworks display within the city is the public-display permit route, which functions as an outright ban for personal or private use.
