Lima did NOT opt out of Ohio's 2022 fireworks law. Residents may discharge 1.4G consumer fireworks on state-designated holidays only, on private property you own or have permission to use. July 3-5, 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Streets are off-limits.
Under Ohio House Bill 172 (ORC Ch. 3743, effective July 1, 2022), Ohioans may discharge 1.4G consumer-grade fireworks unless their city opted out. Lima did not opt out and is not on the state's opt-out list, so state rules govern. ORC 3743.45 limits discharge to designated days including July 3, 4 and 5, and requires the person to be on real property they own or have the owner's permission to use. Lima Police confirm the July 3-5 window runs 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., with aerial fireworks launched at least 150 feet from spectators and non-aerial at least 50 feet. Setting off fireworks in the street is not legal.
Discharging outside designated days/times or in the street can bring a misdemeanor charge and citation; injuries or property damage escalate penalties. Local nuisance rules also apply.
