Lyon County, NV Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Section 7.02.01 of the Lyon County Code, in chapter 2 of title 7 (Miscellaneous Offenses), makes it unlawful for any person to sell, offer for sale, discharge or set off any rocket, squib, firecracker or other fireworks of any description within the county. The ban is written to cover the county as a whole rather than being limited by its own text, and it does not carve out an exception for a licensed public display, a specific holiday, or a particular type of low-hazard novelty item; the prohibition covers fireworks of any description.

The section was carried into the current code from the 1973 Code section 10.20.010, showing the ban predates the county's more recent title 7 reorganization. Rather than setting its own fine schedule, section 7.02.01 points to the general penalty provision at section 1.04.01, which declares that violations of the Lyon County Code, other than offenses the code or Nevada Revised Statutes label civil infractions, are misdemeanors punishable as Nevada Revised Statutes provide for misdemeanors, and applies that penalty to every section of the code as if it were written into each one individually.

Enforcement in unincorporated Lyon County, covering Dayton, Silver Springs, Stagecoach, Mound House and Smith Valley, falls to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office; Fernley and Yerington, as incorporated cities, enforce their own separate fireworks rules.
