Glynn County, GA Fire Regulations: Outdoor Burning (2026)

Section 2-7-9 flatly bans open burning of tires, other rubber products, plastics, heavy oils, or asphaltic-based or impregnated materials anywhere in unincorporated Glynn County, with no exception for those materials. All other open burning is unlawful unless it fits one of eleven listed exceptions: reducing leaves on the premises where they fell, at least 25 feet from any structure; recognized agricultural procedures for producing or harvesting crops; forest landowners burning their own land; recreational fires or cooking food for immediate consumption; fires for training firefighters; acquired-structure burns authorized by the Georgia DNR Environmental Protection Division; disposal of storm-damage vegetative debris; weed, disease, and pest abatement burning; open-flame devices such as tar kettles and torches; disposal of explosive packing materials under federal labor safety rules; and land-clearing burns using an air curtain destructor, which carries its own siting, spacing, and hourly restrictions.

and one hour before sunset and must not create air pollution that unreasonably interferes with others' enjoyment or use of their property. Smoke opacity from most exception burns cannot equal or exceed 40 percent, though prescribed, slash, agricultural, and acquired-structure burns are exempt from that opacity standard, and prescribed burning additionally requires Georgia Forestry Commission authorization.
