Beaumont, CA Fire Regulations: Wildfire Zones (2026)

Beaumont Municipal Code § 15.20.020 adds Section 302.1.1 to the California Wildland-Urban Interface Code. It records that the City Council adopted the State Fire Marshal's recommendations under Government Code section 51178 and designated the moderate, high, and very high fire hazard severity zones shown on the Local Responsibility Area maps. Those maps were adopted under Ordinance No. 1185. The code text does not list streets or neighborhoods, so the State Fire Marshal maps decide whether a parcel sits inside a zone.

Chapter 15.20 was rewritten in its entirety by Ordinance No. 1190, adopted November 4, 2025, and adopts the 2025 edition of the state code. Section 501.1 defines a wildland-urban interface area as a state-identified Fire Hazard Severity Zone under Public Resources Code Sections 4201 through 4204 and Government Code Sections 51175 through 51189, plus other areas the enforcing agency designates as being at significant risk from wildfires. Buildings and structures there must be built to the California Building Code and this chapter. Two exceptions apply: Group U accessory structures of 120 square feet or less that stand at least 50 feet from applicable buildings, and Group U agricultural buildings at least 50 feet from applicable buildings.

Where the Riverside County Fire Code and the wildland-urban interface code conflict, Section 102.4.1.1 applies the more restrictive provision. Section 602.1 requires a fire protection plan for any proposed subdivision or building project, prepared by a registered design professional or similar specialist, with a preliminary plan submitted before the final plan. A single-family dwelling on an existing legal parcel is exempt from that plan. Section 603.3 still requires a landscape and fuel modification plan for any project in a WUI area. Section 608.2 sets a 30-foot setback from property lines and the center of a road for new tract and parcel maps, new buildings, and additions.
