Montebello, CA Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Sidewalk & Mobile Vending (2026)

Once a sidewalk vendor holds the permit required by Montebello Municipal Code Section 5.40.040, Section 5.40.070 sets the operating conditions that apply every time the vendor sets up. The sidewalk vendor permit, and any Los Angeles County public health permit for a food vendor, must be displayed conspicuously on the receptacle or the vendor's person at all times. Vending activity citywide is prohibited between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. daily, and a receptacle cannot be left unattended on public property or chained to a pole, sign, tree or other fixture.

A food vending receptacle must operate out of an approved commissary or mobile support unit, and vendors selling food must carry the county public health permit required by Los Angeles County Code Title 11. Vendors must maintain a trash container on the receptacle, keep a ten-foot area around it free of trash and litter, and preserve a four-foot-wide obstruction-free path for pedestrians, at least as wide as the Americans with Disabilities Act requires. Receptacles, including attached signage, may not exceed four feet in height, width or length unless the director approves a larger unit after weighing the vendor's need against the public-safety risk; electrical, flashing or animated signs and portable generators are barred outright.

Vendors may not sell alcohol, cannabis, tobacco or vaping products, may not rent merchandise, and may not use amplified sound beyond a single bell no more than two inches across. Anyone requiring more than one worker at a receptacle must keep all workers within five feet of it while vending.
