Glen Cove, NY Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Vending Zones (2026)

Chapter 208 of the Glen Cove City Code, Peddling and Soliciting, defines a peddler broadly to include anyone who sells goods, wares or merchandise, including food, from a vehicle on a public street (§ 208-2), so its street-use rules govern mobile food vending as much as any other cart or truck. Section 208-15 forbids keeping or maintaining a wagon, cart, automobile, vehicle or stand at any fixed point on a City street or highway for the purpose of peddling; the vendor must keep the vehicle moving from place to place and may only remain stationary long enough to complete one sale.

The section separately bars stopping in any congested area or letting the vehicle stop or remain at a crosswalk where it might impede or inconvenience the public. Section 208-16 adds a location-specific buffer: no peddling or soliciting, and no halting a cart, wagon or vehicle on a public highway, within 200 feet of any public or private school. Section 208-16 also bars maintaining any booth or stand or placing barrels, boxes, crates or other obstructions on a street or public place to sell or display goods.

Read together, these sections mean Glen Cove has no zone where a mobile vendor may legally park and sell from a fixed spot; lawful vending is transient by design, moving between sales rather than setting up at a curbside location, a parking lot, or a plaza. A vendor who also deals in frozen desserts faces the additional vehicle-positioning rules of § 208-18, and anyone selling food must carry the Nassau County Department of Health certificate required by § 208-13.
