Under the May 2025 amendment to Chapter 196, leaf blowers, lawn mowers, chainsaws, woodchippers, grinders, sharpeners and similar gas/diesel power equipment may be operated only 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. weekdays, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Saturdays, and 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Sundays, with no use on major holidays.
The 2025 ordinance also bars all commercial landscapers, construction contractors, roofers and tree workers from operating on Sundays and major holidays, except for emergency work in the interest of public safety. All equipment must be fitted with a manufacturer-approved muffler or noise-reduction device; defective mufflers are a separate violation. Residents may use quieter electric/battery equipment outside these windows but still subject to the general unreasonable-noise standard. The city publicized the new hours through the Mayor's Office in 2025.
Operation outside the allowed windows or without a muffler is a violation of Chapter 196 punishable under Β§ 1-15 by fines up to $1,000 and/or 15 days in jail per offense.
