Caldwell, ID Garage & Yard Sales: Frequency, Duration & Permits (2026)

Caldwell City Code § 06-15-01 governs every garage, yard or similar sale held within city limits, capping how often and how long a single address can host one. A property may not host a fourth garage, yard or similar sale within any preceding 365-day period, and a sale is barred outright if the prior sale at that address happened within the last 30 days. ; nothing may be sold outside that window. The ordinance also requires every sale to be directly associated with a residence on the site: holding one at a vacant lot or unoccupied building is unlawful unless the seller is the property's owner of record or has obtained the owner's written permission specifying the date, address and scope of the sale.

Sales run for the benefit of a charity or nonprofit get no exemption from any of these limits, and sellers cannot create a hazard to public health or safety while running the sale. Every violation is charged as a misdemeanor, with each day the violation continues counted as a separate, additional offense, under the code's general penalty provision, Caldwell City Code § 01-01-05, which ties to the maximum fines and jail terms allowed under Idaho Code § 50-302. Advertising for a sale is governed separately: temporary signage is capped at four signs per sale and must come down within 24 hours of the sale's close, under Caldwell City Code § 06-15-01(7).
