Caldwell, ID Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Caldwell City Code § 09-07-03 sets the baseline: vehicles must park on the right-hand side of the street in the direction of travel, with an exception for one-way streets in the city, where parking is allowed on either side in the direction traffic moves unless the code or a sign says otherwise. The Caldwell Traffic Commission may erect signs banning parking on the left-hand side of a one-way street, and once those signs are up, parking on that side becomes unlawful. The Commission has the same authority over narrow streets generally, posting no-parking signs wherever a street is too tight for parked cars and traffic to share safely; once posted, parking in violation of those signs is likewise unlawful.

Caldwell folds several related directional and placement offenses into its master improperly-parked-vehicles list at § 09-07-13(2), including blocking a driveway with a parked vehicle, parking with the vehicle headed in the wrong direction, double parking, and parking with wheels more than 18 inches from the curb. Any of these draws a parking ticket from a police officer or a city-authorized parking officer, and the vehicle can also be towed at the registered owner's expense when it obstructs the free movement of traffic or creates a hazard.

Because the vehicle's operator often cannot be identified at the time of ticketing, the code presumes the registered owner, or the named lessee under a lease agreement, responsible for the violation. Fines, including escalating fines for repeat violations within 30 days of the first, are set by City Council resolution on the Chief of Police's or Community Development Director's recommendation.
