Moore, OK Home Business: Signage Rules (2026)

Moore's home occupation rules sit in Chapter 9-15 of the City Code, adopted by Ordinance 970(21) on June 7, 2021 and amended by Ordinance 1062.25 on February 19, 2025. Sec 9-1502 treats a home occupation as any profession or trade carried on inside a residence that stays clearly incidental and secondary to the home's residential use. The section bars two things outright: outside volunteers or employees other than the residents themselves, and exterior signage that identifies the property as a business location, so a home business owner cannot post a yard sign, window sign or address plaque naming the enterprise.

The total floor area used for the occupation, including any portion of an attached garage or accessory building used for the business itself, cannot exceed 10 percent of the dwelling's gross floor area, and no outside storage is allowed. Pickup or delivery activity is barred between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., and the operation cannot pave extra driveway area or change the exterior character of the home. The Community Development Director enforces the chapter through Sec 9-1504: the director reviews written complaints, can order a home occupation to cease, or can compel changes to bring it into compliance, and the operator has 10 days to respond in writing before a decision issues.

An operator who disagrees may appeal to the Board of Adjustment, which must notify every property owner within 200 feet of the home before it hears the case.
