Inglewood Zoning Restrictions Rules (2026): What You Need to Know

Inglewood's Home Occupation Regulations under Chapter 12, Article 1.2 (Section 12-17.1) establish strict conditions for conducting businesses from residential properties. Residential districts are maintained for quiet and safe neighborhood environments, and home occupations are permitted only under the most restrictive interpretation of the established conditions.

To operate a home business, the owner must first obtain authorization from the Planning and Building Department Director by submitting a Home Occupation Questionnaire along with a Business Tax Certificate registration form. The business must be clearly incidental and secondary to the dwelling's residential use and must not change the residential character of the premises. Operations are limited to one room within a structure, not exceeding 100 square feet, and may not occupy any required garage space.

Prohibited home occupations include vehicle servicing, repair, washing, or storage (cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, bicycles). No motor other than an electrically operated motor may be used, with total horsepower not exceeding 0.5 HP. The business must not generate traffic, noise, odor, dust, vibration, fumes, or electrical interference beyond what is normal for a residential area. No on-premises sales or delivery of merchandise to customers is permitted except for goods wholly fabricated on the premises. Denials may be appealed to the Planning Commission within the specified appeal period.
