Summary
Once hurricane season ends, Davie property owners have exactly one week to take down boarding and hurricane shutters or the building is automatically in violation of the town code.
The owner or agent of any structure or building that has been boarded during hurricane season shall remove the boards or hurricane shutters no later than one (1) week after the end of the hurricane season. If the hurricane shutters have not been removed by that time, the structure or building will be considered to be in violation of code, except when the building, dwelling or structure has a SET team boarding approval and active building permit for the renovation thereof, or is subject to any exception found in this article.
Official source re-checked September 7, 2026: no newer edition of the code had been published (publisher’s edition: Code of Ordinances: Supplement 75).
Full Breakdown
Town of Davie Code § 6-59 requires that any structure boarded or shuttered during hurricane season have the boards or hurricane shutters removed no later than one week after hurricane season ends. Miss that deadline and the structure is considered in violation of code, triggering the same enforcement process, notice, special magistrate hearing, and fines, that applies to unpermitted boarding under Chapter 6. The rule doesn't apply if the property holds an active SET-team boarding approval and building permit for renovation, or otherwise qualifies for an exception elsewhere in the boarding article.
Violations & Fines
Leaving hurricane shutters or boarding up more than one week after hurricane season ends is a code violation; the property can be cited and brought before the code enforcement special magistrate under Chapter 6.
