Lauderhill, FL Landscaping Rules: Water Restrictions (2026)

Article VI of Chapter 21, adopted by Ord. No. 21O-01-102 on January 25, 2021, implements the South Florida Water Management District's year-round conservation measures under Chapter 40E-24, F.A.C. Sec. 21-73 exempts athletic play areas, agricultural operations and nurseries, and irrigation using reclaimed water or saltwater, and yields to any district-declared water shortage. Sec. 21-74 bans landscape irrigation citywide from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day, then assigns existing landscaping to two watering days a week by address parity: even-numbered addresses and unaddressed rights-of-way on Thursdays and/or Sundays, odd-numbered addresses on Wednesdays and/or Saturdays.

New landscaping gets a 90-day establishment period: it may be watered once on installation day regardless of schedule, on any day for its first 30 days, then only Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and/or Saturday through day 90. Sprinkler systems may be tested for cleaning, maintenance or repair outside assigned days with someone on-site, capped at once a week and 10 minutes per zone, and automatic systems must carry rain-sensing shutoff technology under Sec. 21-75 and F.S. § 373.62. Sec. 21-76 lets a user apply to the city manager for a variance on grounds of substantial, non-self-imposed hardship; the city manager must decide within 45 days, and a denial can be appealed to the city governing body within 30 days by certified mail. Even under a variance, no single zone may be irrigated more than twice a week.
