Naperville prohibits grass and weeds exceeding 8 inches in height on private property and in the right-of-way. Property owners must also maintain the public way free of weeds, trash, and debris. The No Mow til Mother's Day program provides a seasonal exemption.
Naperville's weed ordinance prohibits grass and weeds from exceeding 8 inches in height on both private property (including flower beds) and in the public right-of-way. Property owners must maintain the public way in a safe condition for pedestrians, free of weeds, tall grass, trash, debris, and other obstructions. Naperville Township also enforces weed and grass control under the Illinois Township Code for properties in unincorporated areas. The city's No Mow til Mother's Day program exempts registered participants from weed ordinances until the Saturday following Mother's Day, provided a participation sign is displayed. After a violation notice, property owners have a compliance period before the city may perform the work and bill the owner.
First notice: deadline to comply. Non-compliance: city performs mowing/cleanup and bills the property owner. Repeat offenders face escalating fines. Naperville Township may also enforce separately in unincorporated areas.
