Beaumont, CA Mobility & Curb Rules: Bike Lane Rules (2026)

Beaumont Municipal Code § 10.36.010 sorts bikeways into three classes. Class I is a bike path, a completely separated right-of-way for bicycles and pedestrians. Class II is a bike lane, a restricted right-of-way for the exclusive use of bicycles where vehicle parking and pedestrians are prohibited, though pedestrians and motorists still cross it. Class III is a bike route, a signed or marked right-of-way shared with pedestrians or motorists. Under § 10.36.020, the Beaumont City Council decides by resolution which streets or portions of streets become Class II and Class III bikeways and on which days and times, and the bikeways must be marked and signed.

Every Class II lane is either posted with No Parking signs or has the adjacent curb painted red. Section 10.36.030 sets the roadway riding rules: ride as near to the right side as practicable, use due care when passing a standing vehicle or one proceeding in the same direction, never ride more than two abreast, and stay off the roadway wherever a Class I bikeway has been provided. Section 10.36.040 bars riding on a sidewalk adjacent to a bikeway unless signs permit it, with an exception for authorized police bicycle patrols.

Chapter 10.35, added by Ord. No. 1193 on 11-4-2025, requires a helmet for every person of any age who operates or rides as a passenger on a bicycle in a public area of the City. Bicycle licensing runs through the Beaumont Police Department: the initial license fee is $1.50, renewed every 36 months for $1.50 (§ 10.36.140), and the plate goes on the frame below the seat (§ 10.36.100).
