Peoria, AZ Mobility & Curb Rules: Bike Lane Rules (2026)

Peoria City Code Section 14-140(b) defines a "Bicycle Lane" as the portion of a roadway the City sets aside for the exclusive use of bicycles or other permitted modes of travel, marked by pavement striping and, where used, signs. Section 14-106(a)(15) then folds that lane into the chapter's general parking restrictions: it is unlawful to stop, stand or park a vehicle within a designated bicycle lane unless otherwise posted. That prohibition sits alongside the chapter's other stopping bans, including parking within a crosswalk, within five feet of a driveway, or within fifteen feet of a fire hydrant, all enforced as a civil traffic violation under Section 14-106(e).

On the cyclist's side, Section 14-149(f) defines what counts as unsafe operation of a bicycle, electric bicycle, electric standup scooter or motorized play vehicle, and lists riding on a sidewalk, bicycle path or bicycle lane against the flow of traffic as one of eleven specific examples, alongside disobeying posted signs, intentionally swerving around slowed traffic and operating while holding a handheld phone. Section 14-142(a) separately puts a bicycle operator on a roadway under all the same rights and duties the state's rules of the road impose on a motor vehicle driver. These sections were amended by Ordinance No. 2026-08 on March 24, 2026.
