Anaheim, CA Noise Ordinances: Amplified Music & Outdoor Sound (2026)

Anaheim Municipal Code Section 6.72.020 regulates any sound-amplifying equipment, fixed, movable, or vehicle-mounted, city-wide, applying on top of the general 60-decibel Chapter 6.70 property-line standard. Subsection .010 forbids any commercial use of amplifying equipment in residential zones and within 200 feet of a residential boundary, with one narrow exception: a moving vehicle may use it between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. solely to announce its presence for commercial purposes, and the equipment must go silent the moment the vehicle stops, parks, or is otherwise stationary.

Subsection .030 extends the restriction to non-residential zones outside that 200-foot buffer, prohibiting commercial amplified sound between 9:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. Beyond the clock, subsection .050 caps audibility: sound from amplifying equipment cannot be heard by a person of normal hearing inside an enclosed building more than 200 feet away, and subsection .060 independently bars any use that is unreasonably loud, raucous, jarring, or disturbing to a person of normal sensitiveness, or that disturbs the peace of any neighborhood, regardless of measured distance or time.

Subsection .070 adds a location-based rule: no amplified sound near a hospital, school, or publicly owned arena, stadium, convention center, or auditorium that disrupts an event or activity underway there. Chapter 6.72 exempts vehicle sound systems governed by the Vehicle Code, equipment heard only on the premises where located, emergency vehicle warning devices, use tied to an event at Anaheim Stadium, Arrowhead Pond (Honda Center), or the Convention Center, and equipment used as an integral part of a lawfully permitted institutional use such as a school or place of worship (Section 6.72.040).
