Anaheim, CA Noise Ordinances: Quiet Hours (2026)

Anaheim Municipal Code Section 6.72.020(.020) sets the city's nighttime curfew for private amplified sound: in all residential zones, and within 200 feet of any residential zone boundary, no sound-amplifying equipment may be operated or used for noncommercial purposes between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. of the following day. This is a stricter, narrower rule than the general 24-hour, 60-decibel property-line standard in Chapter 6.70, because it targets amplified sound (speakers, PA systems, amplified music devices) specifically and applies only during nighttime hours in and near residential neighborhoods, without needing a decibel meter reading.

Outside those hours, or outside residential zones, noncommercial amplified sound in non-residential areas beyond the 200-foot buffer is barred only between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. under subsection .040. Regardless of zone or clock, subsection .060 backstops the curfew: sound-amplifying equipment can never be unreasonably loud, raucous, jarring, or disturbing to a person of normal sensitiveness, or disturb the peace or quiet of any neighborhood, at any hour. The chapter exempts equipment used and heard only by occupants of the premises where it sits, emergency and traffic-safety warning devices, and equipment integral to an event at Anaheim Stadium, the Honda Center, the Convention Center, or a lawfully permitted school or place of worship (Section 6.72.040). The Code Enforcement Manager enforces Chapter 6.70's general noise standard (Section 6.70.030), and Anaheim police and code enforcement handle amplified-sound complaints under Chapter 6.72.
