Amplified music rules in Gardena, CA — also called sound permit, PA system, or live music ordinances — set decibel limits, time-of-day restrictions, and when permits are required.
Gardena Municipal Code 8.36.070 restricts loudspeakers, radios, and sound systems that create a noise disturbance across a property line between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., or that exceed decibel limits at any time.
GMC 8.36.070(2) makes it unlawful to use any loudspeaker or similar device between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. such that it creates a noise disturbance across a residential property line, or at any time to violate the exterior or interior decibel limits of GMC 8.36.040 and 8.36.050. GMC 8.36.070(1) applies the same restriction to radios, TVs, phonographs, and musical instruments, and caps them at the GMC 8.36.040 limits when measured 50 feet from a device on a public right-of-way. Non-commercial public speaking or permitted events are exempt. Amplified music with informational or musical content triggers a 5 dB stricter standard.
Misdemeanor under GMC 8.36.090; up to $1,000 fine and/or six months (Chapter 1.16).
