Lakeville, MN Noise Ordinances: Construction Hours (2026)

Lakeville regulates construction-type noise through City Code 4-1-4 rather than a separate construction-permit noise ordinance. According to the City's Common Code Requirements page, the following activities are prohibited between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.: grading activities such as operating an engine and starting heavy equipment; the use of any power tools such as saws, jackhammers, or air compressors; and the repair and servicing of motor vehicles, recreational vehicles, or other equipment. In practice this gives contractors and homeowners a roughly 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. window for noisy construction work, seven days a week, with snow-removal equipment the only listed exception. Even during permitted daytime hours, the broader nuisance standard still applies: noise audible within 50 feet of the source that disturbs the peace and comfort of nearby residents can be cited as a violation. The City does not publish a decibel ceiling for construction sites; enforcement is complaint-driven and handled by the Lakeville Police Department. For commercial or industrial construction near homes, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's statewide noise standards (Minn. R. 7030.0040) may also apply, holding sources to nighttime limits as low as 50 dBA (L50) at residential receivers.
