Ontario regulates leaf blowers through its noise ordinance and daytime equipment hours. Gas blowers remain legal to operate, but California AB 1346 bars new gas SORE sales statewide since 2024, phasing them out.
Ontario Municipal Code Title 5 Chapter 29 restricts gardening equipment including leaf blowers, mowers, edgers, and trimmers to daytime hours in residential zones, generally 7 AM to 8 PM Monday through Saturday with tighter limits on Sundays and holidays. Ontario has not enacted a citywide ban on gas leaf blowers, so landscapers servicing neighborhoods near Ontario Mills, Westwind, Creekside, and New Model Colony can still run gas equipment during permitted hours as long as they do not exceed the exterior noise limits at adjoining property lines. California Assembly Bill 1346, administered by the California Air Resources Board, prohibits the sale of new gas-powered small off-road engines (SORE) including leaf blowers as of January 1, 2024, which will gradually retire gas blowers statewide, but existing equipment remains legal to operate. Commercial landscapers must hold a city business license, and violations of hours or decibel limits can be cited administratively through Code Enforcement.
