Quiet hours in Irvine, CA β also called the noise ordinance, nighttime noise rules, or residential quiet time β define the hours during which excessive noise is prohibited.
Irvine designates nighttime quiet hours from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM under IMC Title 6, Division 8, Chapter 2 with lower decibel limits for all noise zones. Construction is prohibited during these hours without a waiver.
Under IMC Title 6, Division 8, Chapter 2, Irvine establishes two time periods for noise standards: daytime (7:00 AM to 10:00 PM) and nighttime (10:00 PM to 7:00 AM). Nighttime standards are lower than daytime for all four noise zones. During nighttime hours, no construction, repair, remodeling, or grading activities are permitted. Amplified sound, music, and other noise sources must meet the lower nighttime limits. Emergency work is exempt. The nighttime standards are designed to protect residents' sleep and quiet enjoyment of their homes.
Noise violations during quiet hours carry the same penalties as daytime violations but are more strictly enforced. Citations and fines apply.
