Doral, FL Outdoor Cooking: Smoker Rules (2026)

Sec. 29-35(a), part of the 'Picnic areas and use' rule (Rule 14 under Ord. No. 2004-20, amended by Ord. No. 2022-14), governs every outdoor cooking fire on city park property: no person shall build, light or cause to be lighted any fire upon the ground or other object in any area except in an approved grill, stove, fireplace or other suitable container without written permission from the Parks and Recreation Department, nor may anyone starting a fire leave the area without extinguishing it. That means a smoker, charcoal grill or camp stove is fine in a park's designated picnic or grilling area, but building a fire directly on the ground, or using any cooking apparatus outside an approved container, requires written sign-off from the Parks and Recreation Department in advance.

Whoever lights the fire is personally responsible for putting it out completely before leaving, regardless of whether the fire was started in an approved container or not. The rule sits within the same article as Sec. 29-28(7)'s companion ban on building fires against or near any park building, structure, tree or plant, or in an area not specifically designated and approved for fire-building. Violating Sec. 00 set in Sec. 29-20, and Doral police, code enforcement officers and parks staff are each authorized under Sec. 29-21 to enforce it.
