Davie has adopted night-sky (dark-sky) regulations in Sec. 12-262 of the Land Development Code. With limited exceptions, all non-exempt outdoor lighting fixtures and area lights must be full-cutoff-type luminaires, and the code also sets lamp-type/shielding and hours-of-operation requirements to reduce light pollution.
The Town of Davie Land Development Code, Chapter 12, Article VIII, Division 2 (Lighting), contains 'night sky regulations' in Sec. 12-262. The core requirement is that all non-exempt outdoor lighting fixtures in the Town - except parcels located within the Rural Lifestyle or Griffin Corridor districts - shall be full-cutoff-type luminaires, and all area lights shall be full-cutoff-type luminaires. Sec. 12-262(F)(1) addresses lamp type and shielding per fixture, and Sec. 12-262(H)(1) addresses hours of operation. These night-sky rules work together with the general lighting standards of Sec. 12-260: Sec. 12-260(A)(4) requires all artificial parking-lot or site-area lighting to be fully shielded to limit spillover onto adjacent property and public rights-of-way, and Sec. 12-260(A)(2)(d) provides that where the IESNA Lighting Handbook and the Sec. 12-262 night-sky regulations differ, the more restrictive standard applies. Architectural strip lighting is prohibited in all residential districts under Sec. 12-260(B)(2). Single-family, duplex and triplex lot driveways and walkways are generally outside the Sec. 12-260(A) parking-illumination mandate. For exact lamp-type, mounting and curfew details, consult Sec. 12-262 directly or call Davie Planning & Zoning, 954-797-1103.
Installing non-full-cutoff fixtures or area lights where required, exceeding the spillover limits, or violating the Sec. 12-262 lamp-type/shielding or hours-of-operation rules is a code violation. Davie Code Compliance can require re-aiming, shielding, or replacement of non-conforming fixtures.
