Shreveport has adopted no dark-sky ordinance, no International Dark-Sky Association standard and no lamp color-temperature ceiling. Unified Development Code Section 7.2 still delivers much of the same effect through cutoff angles, luminaire height caps and a ban on high-intensity beams.
A luminaire counts as cut off only when its cutoff angle is 75 degrees or less, and a cut off luminaire tops out at 25 feet total height. Anything unshielded or above 75 degrees is a no cut off luminaire, capped at 15 feet, with special use approval required above that. Flickering and flashing lights are prohibited, as are searchlights, laser source lights and similar high intensity lights. Public roadway illumination, temporary emergency lighting and outdoor recreational facilities are exempt, with sports lighting permitted to 60 feet in any district.
Installing a luminaire above the height limit for its cutoff class without a variance or special use approval violates Section 7.2 and blocks site plan approval.
